Elim Christian Church was birthed into the spirit of Pastor Eric Susberry in 1984 via a dream. During a course of eight years God began to speak to Pastor Eric about the ministry. He received two more dreams and a vision of God placing a mantel on his shoulders. The Lord gave Pastor Susberry the name Elim Christian Church symbolizing a place to be refreshed (Exodus 15:23-27).   The word “Elim” means palm tree.

In 1992, a series of prayer meetings were held in the Pastor’s home with people that God sent to help launch this church. Intercessory prayer was the foundation on which Elim was birthed and has continued to be the catalyst for the success of this ministry. On July 1, 1992, ECC held its first Wednesday night Bible Study. The Word of the Lord came to Pastor Eric saying, “Tell your father you’re going to start a church”. On August 13, 1992 Pastor Eric A. Susberry and Caren F. Susberry were ordained into the ministry by Pastor Al Smith of Faith Tabernacle Church. By September 6, 1992, the Bible study had become a church of about fifty members. ECC started Sunday Worship in October of 1992. Some of the original members included the Pamon, Patterson, Horne, Fletcher, Bowen, and   Townsend family, Willa Pamon, Jannell Dennison, Ramona Susberry, Monica Scott, Adolph Brown, Yolanda Hill, Brenda Morris, Corrine Hand, Naomi Payne, Pat, Eric and Craig Thomas, Tara Collins and Tracy Mansfield.

In the course of twelve years Elim held its services in eight different locations, not counting Pastor’s home where we worshiped for nine months.

On April 25, 1993, we moved our services out of Pastor’s home to a church facility at 1617 West 99th Street. At this location ministries began to sprout (the children’s, youth, marriage ministries were developed along with a men’s bible study and praise team). The church began to grow in numbers and in the   anointing. It was through the ministry of the intercessors that we began to experience the miracle working power of God. We saw God heal and restore the body of our own Sister Valeria. He healed her of cancer, took her off a death bed and caused her to go from a wheelchair to walking unassisted before our very eyes. As a result of her healing, about fifteen members of her family received Jesus as their personal Savior and joined the church.

In the year 1999, we became a part of Macedonian Ministries under the leadership of Pastor John Cherry. This affiliation was terminated in December of 2001, in the same year Pastor Susberry licensed his first minister, Martie Susberry. In 2001 our ministry team grew with three additional ministers being licensed; Ministers Janice Pamon, Wendy Patterson, and Minister Eddie Johnson. Minister Jannell Dennison was licensed in 2004 bringing our total to four licensed ministers. In 2007 Minister David Hudson joined Elim and the Ministerial team. Minister Marjorie Bowman was licensed in September 2011 and is presently a part of the ministerial team.

On April 23, 2003 we purchased our present location, 2735 W. 79th Street. During the year of 2004 God gave Pastor Eric the vision to take over Greyhound. In January of 2009, Express Covenant Coach was birthed.   May of the same year our 1st of many buses was purchased this business opportunity is uniquely designed to build the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Eric Susberry holds a certificate of ordination presented by Dr. Bill Winston in May of 2006. Pastors Eric and Caren Susberry are members of Faith Ministries Alliance of Living Word Christian Center.

Pastor Eric can now be heard daily at 9:15am on the Big Gospel Xpress 1570am radio station and Pastor Caren every Thursday at 1:15pm.

Elim is now a valued and growing part of the community. Pastor Susberry received a letter from the Ward’s Alderman acknowledging Elim as a valued asset to the community. People from the neighborhood have embraced Elim and many families from the community have become members. Under the leadership of Pastors Eric and Caren Susberry, Elim Christian Church continues to enlarge its territory and is looking forward to greater things ahead.
